Shukri Assaf

My parents have been separated since my birth. My father refuses to cover my expenses or support me in any way, leaving my mother as the sole provider for our family. My mother’s salary is in shekels, and we live with my mother’s family in a rented house, where she also contributes to the household expenses.

I want to support my mother and ease the burden of my university costs, even if just a little.

I chose this field because of my passion for helping others and my fascination with the complexity of the human body. Since childhood, I have always been captivated by how the human body works and was eager to learn more about it. In this field, there is always something new to discover—every day, advancements contribute to the development of medical science. That is why I aspire to be part of this progress, bringing new hope to society.

And how could I not choose medicine, when Imam Al-Shafi’i once said:
"There are two types of knowledge: the knowledge of religion and the knowledge of the world. The knowledge of religion is jurisprudence, and the knowledge of the world is medicine."
