Mohammed Alaa Hillis

My name is Mohammed Alaa Hillis, a Palestinian student from Gaza, currently in my second year of medical school at the Islamic University of Gaza. Since childhood, I have always dreamed of becoming a doctor—someone who heals the sick, helps people, and serves his community and country in a way that pleases God. However, due to the devastating circumstances we are facing in Gaza, particularly since the beginning of the genocidal war, my journey has become incredibly difficult.

Like many others, I have suffered immense losses—we have lost family members, friends, and even our homes, leaving us displaced with no shelter. The entire education sector in Gaza has come to a halt, and as university students, we are struggling in all aspects of life to continue our education. These challenges include:

  • Lack of access to basic necessities such as water, electricity, and internet.
  • Difficulty in obtaining study materials and textbooks.
  • The absence of a stable and suitable environment for studying.
  • The high cost of tuition fees, which has become nearly impossible for my family to afford due to the financial strain caused by the war.

Given these circumstances, I have actively sought scholarships and funding opportunities to help me pursue my dream. I have been looking for fully funded scholarships, opportunities to study abroad, or any form of financial support that would enable me to continue my education. This is what led me to submit my application to your esteemed organization, the International Association for Student Assistance (ASAI), in the hope of receiving a scholarship or financial aid to help me achieve my academic goals.

How I Would Benefit from Your Support:
If I were to receive this scholarship, it would have a profound impact on my life in several ways:

1. Psychological and Moral Encouragement: Receiving financial aid would motivate me to persevere in my studies despite the extreme hardships, giving me hope to one day fulfill my dream of becoming a doctor.
2. Paying Tuition Fees: My family’s financial situation has severely deteriorated since the war began, making it impossible for us to cover the high costs of tuition. Any financial assistance would greatly ease this burden.
3. Purchasing Essential Study Equipment: A tablet or laptop would significantly enhance my ability to study and access educational materials.
4. Securing Reliable Internet and Electricity Access: A strong internet connection and at least three hours of electricity per day are crucial for my studies, especially as remote learning has become an essential part of education.
5. Creating a Proper Study Environment: I currently lack a desk and chair for studying. Having these essentials would provide a more stable learning environment.
6. Printing Books and Study Materials: Many textbooks are not available in digital format and printing them is often the only option. Financial support would allow me to print study materials and purchase necessary supplies.
7. Covering Basic Living Expenses: Given the current situation, securing food, clean water, and other daily necessities has become a challenge. Any support would contribute to meeting these essential needs.

It would be an honor to join your scholarship program, which supports outstanding and financially struggling students in their pursuit of higher education. I extend my deepest gratitude to all donors and benefactors for their generosity and to the entire team at the International Association for Student Assistance (ASAI) for their efforts in providing educational opportunities to students in need.
