Shahd Mohammed Hamed Awad

In a land where dreams are often delayed by conflict, I've come to see education not only as right but as an act of resistance, healing, and hope.
I'm Shahd Awad, having achieved a remarkable grade of 98.4 during my high school years. I firmly believe that everyone has a unique role in life, and mine revolves around the practice of dentistry. Why dentistry? Because it embodies boundless generosity and provides an ideal platform for me to channel my innate desire to give back to society. This conviction led me to explore various fields meticulously, ultimately discerning dentistry as my true calling. Its promise of autonomy and hands-on engagement strongly resonated with my aspirations. Enrolling in the Faculty of Dentistry at Al-Azhar University in 2021 marked the beginning of my journey. Despite the unfortunate interruption caused by the conflict, my commitment remains unwavering, and I eagerly await the opportunity to resume my education and fulfill my passion for dentistry.
My educational journey has been shaped not only by academic excellence but also by the harsh realities of living in a conflict-affected region. The ongoing instability disrupted my university studies, yet it did not shake my resolve. On the contrary, it reinforced my belief in the power of knowledge to transform lives and uplift communities. In the face of limited resources and the loss of many medical professionals, I remain determined to pursue my goals and contribute meaningfully to the future of healthcare.
This scholarship represents more than financial relief; it is a vital support that will enable me to continue my academic journey at Al-Azhar University. It will allow me to focus on my studies, deepen my knowledge of dentistry, and take an active role in both university and community development. With this opportunity, I aim to grow academically and personally, so I can better serve my university and make a lasting impact on my society.
Beyond academics, I have consistently sought out opportunities to contribute to the betterment of society through various volunteer and extracurricular engagements. I have participated in school radio programs and competitions, created professional presentations, and volunteered at the International Dental Conference. I also took part in the Girls’ Geek Camp by Mercy Corps in 2021 as a student and returned in 2022 as a mentor to guide and support other young women. In addition, I have completed courses in motion graphics and graphic design and volunteered to manage social media pages for community initiatives.
These experiences have taught me that lasting change begins with small actions and that resilience, collaboration, and education are key to shaping a better future. With the support of this scholarship, I hope not only to continue my studies but also to inspire others in my community to pursue their dreams, no matter the obstacles.
