Sara Abdulrahman Kamel Shahwan

This means you may face obstacles you never expected. But according to the author, the road you aspire to isn’t as difficult as it’s made out to be. With passion and determination, we can overcome all challenges and foster empowerment as we journey toward achieving our goals.

My name is Sara Shahwan, and I’m a dental student with a dream that took root in my childhood. Growing up in Palestine, I witnessed firsthand how many people are unable to access basic healthcare, including dental care. My mother, a dentist, inspired me every single day. She devoted her life to helping others, and I’ve always admired her deeply. From a young age, I was eager to understand the kind of work she did and the powerful impact it had on people’s lives. This curiosity evolved into a deep passion for dentistry.

My name, Sara, means pure and sincere—and I have always felt that this meaning reflects the role I want to play in society. I aspire to be the Sara who brings smiles to people’s faces, eases their pain, and creates a lasting, positive impact on their lives. My purpose is to help combat oral diseases while also improving people’s smiles, addressing not only health concerns but also the self-esteem issues that come with them.

Pursuing my education has not been easy. Living in a region where conflict and instability are part of daily life presents constant challenges. Despite this, my commitment to dentistry has never wavered. In high school, I achieved a 97.4 GPA, which is a testament to my dedication and determination to succeed academically in the face of adversity. However, like many others in my community, I have encountered numerous personal and financial obstacles that continue to challenge my academic journey.

This scholarship would enable me to go further, not just in my studies, but also in the impact I strive to make on my community. I have always been passionate about giving back. I’ve actively participated in several community programs, including the ACCESS Program, and helped organize charity events for children and orphans. These experiences have shown me the importance of service and resilience, especially during difficult times.

Upon completing my degree, I intend to return to my community to provide affordable dental care in underserved areas. My goal is to establish preventive care and oral health education programs that address the root causes of dental issues. This scholarship would be instrumental in making that vision a reality—allowing me to not only graduate but also give back in deeply meaningful ways.

In conclusion, this scholarship is not just a financial opportunity, it’s a pathway to a brighter future for both me and my community. By supporting my education, you are investing in a future where healthcare is accessible to all, and where the dream of a healthier, more educated Palestine becomes reality.

Thank you for considering my application. I am truly grateful for this opportunity.
