Oday Khalid Ramiz Balbisi

My name is Oday Balbisi, and I am a second-year dental student at An-Najah National University in Nablus, Palestine. My passion for dentistry is driven by a deep-seated belief in the power of healthcare to change lives and uplift communities in times of hardship.

Growing up in Palestine, I have experienced firsthand the immense struggles that my people endure daily. The ongoing war, economic instability, and constant uncertainty have made even the most basic aspects of life a challenge. Education, which should be a right, has become a privilege that many students struggle to maintain. Families are forced to prioritize survival over schooling, as financial burdens grow heavier due to halted salaries, rising living costs, and limited opportunities. Despite these harsh conditions, the Palestinian spirit remains unbroken, and it is this resilience that fuels my determination to continue my studies.

I have witnessed the suffering caused by inadequate healthcare, particularly in dentistry, where many are unable to afford even the most essential treatments. Oral health is often overlooked despite its profound impact on overall well-being. I chose dentistry not just as a career but as a mission—to ensure that individuals, especially those with limited access to medical care, receive the attention and treatment they deserve. Every smile restored is a step toward healing, both physically and emotionally.

The pursuit of education is my greatest tool in this journey, but the financial difficulties brought on by the ongoing crisis in my country have made it increasingly challenging to continue. Many students, including myself, face uncertainty regarding tuition fees and academic expenses. The destruction caused by war has further exacerbated these struggles, with universities struggling to provide resources and students facing obstacles in attending classes safely. Despite these hardships, I remain steadfast in my commitment to my studies, knowing that each challenge overcome is a step closer to making a meaningful difference in my community and beyond.

My aspirations extend beyond clinical practice. I am deeply interested in advancing research in the field of dentistry, focusing on innovative treatment methods and preventive measures. The ever-evolving landscape of medicine demands continuous learning and discovery, and I want to contribute to the development of solutions that improve oral health on a global scale. By integrating research with hands-on practice, I aim to leave a lasting impact that goes beyond individual treatments and contributes to the broader field of healthcare.

Receiving this scholarship would be a pivotal moment in my journey, allowing me to continue my education without the looming burden of financial insecurity. It would also provide me with the opportunity to expand my knowledge through specialized courses and research initiatives that will further refine my skills.
