Mahmoud Abusaqer

My name is Mahmoud Abusaqer, and I am currently pursuing a master’s degree in computer science with a focus on data science at Missouri State University. Before the war in Gaza, I was working as a teaching assistant at the Islamic University of Gaza, where I had the privilege of educating and mentoring students in computer science. Additionally, I gained valuable experience working as a Unity + AI Engineer at Metachain Technologies Inc., where I led innovative projects integrating Unity, AI, and AR technologies.

Since starting my master’s program, I have completed 15 credit hours—9 in the Spring 2024 semester and 6 in the Summer 2024 semester—maintaining a GPA of 3.75. I am currently enrolled in 9 credit hours this Fall 2024 semester, and after this semester, I will have 6 credit hours remaining to complete my program.

I was able to pay for my tuition during the Spring 2024 semester using the savings I had from my previous job. Over the summer, I worked as a Graduate Assistant (GA), which helped cover my expenses. However, as an F1 student, I am not permitted to work until I have completed one full academic year in the US, and unfortunately, there are no GA openings for the Fall semester.

Additionally, my wife and I are expecting twins in December. While this news brings immense joy, it also significantly increases the financial burden we are already struggling to bear. Balancing these personal and academic responsibilities while facing financial constraints has been a challenge.

Looking ahead, I have several ambitious plans for the future. I aspire to continue my studies and pursue a PhD in computer science, deepening my expertise in data science and related fields. I also aim to work in my field and apply my knowledge to innovative projects. In addition, I am driven by the desire to become an entrepreneur, using my skills and experiences to develop technological solutions that can benefit communities and create opportunities. Ultimately, my goal is to return to Gaza and help my people by contributing to technological development and education. I want to empower others in my community by sharing what I’ve learned and fostering growth and progress.

However, the financial challenges of being an international student, compounded by the loss of my job due to the war and the upcoming addition to my family, have made it difficult for me to fully focus on my studies. I am seeking financial aid to continue my education and achieve my goal of returning to Gaza to make a meaningful impact. Your support would enable me to complete my master’s program and equip me to contribute to the rebuilding efforts in my homeland, helping my people through these difficult times.
